Micachu & the Shapes release their new album 'Good Sad Happy Bad' in September.
Mica Levi, Marc Pell, and Raisa Khan released their last album together, 'Never', in 2012. Since then, Mica Levi became the youngest ever artist-in-residence at the Southbank Centre, worked on a bunch of tracks with her friend Tirzah, composed the game-changing soundtrack to Under The Skin, and put out a mixtape, amongst about a million other musical projects.
While Levi is still working on film projects now, the genesis of 'Good Sad Happy Bad' came about when the Shapes were rehearsing in the studio and ended up jamming for a few hours. Drummer Marc Pell had been recording the whole thing, unbeknownst to the rest of the group, and afterwards they felt the unscripted jams could form the basis of the record. Rather than writing songs before going into the studio, they decided to develop these jams into the songs that make up the album, with the lyrics written pretty much in one go.
"For me it's the most free we have been," Levi explains in a press release.
Micachu & the Shapes will be heading out on tour shortly, with a full tour in the autumn set to be announced at a later date. Tickets are available here.
