Spotify's new Timeline details 1,000 years of pop music history

Musical landmarks since the 11th century are now available for your scrolling pleasure

Spotify has continued its expansion into social networking by launching a 1000-year history of music on its Facebook Timeline. Using Facebook’s new scrolling layout, the music-streaming application has pinned up hundreds of moments of musical history dating back to 1000AD, so if you want to get jiggy to the compositions of 11th century nun Hildegard de Bingen or dip into Hacienda classics from 1988, just scroll on down.

Each post includes a link which launches a Spotify playlist, and you can comment on and share each post with your Facebook contacts. Spotify said it would soon be giving listeners the chance to input their own favourite musical landmarks to the Timeline.
