The xx - Angels

First taste of the South London trio's new album is a gentle piece of heaven.

Led by Romy Madley Croft, Angels is a tender love song that The xx first revealed at their three ‘homecoming’ London shows back in May. Featuring warm percussion by Jamie xx, it resonates with older-but-wiser sensibility yet retains their trademark minimal soul. In a word, it’s gold and, perhaps partly cos that Youtube rip from their Chats Palace gig has been hit so much, already feels classic. “It’s been a long time since we’ve played you anything new,” they just announced on their Facebook page. “This song is called Angels, it is the first single from our new album, Coexist. We’ve been playing this song live recently, so it feels good to share with you the version we’ve been working on for so long. We hope you like it.” The trio also shared their new album artwork (see in full below), which features their x logo fashioned from the beautiful rainbow patterns that oil and water make when they mix – as in this delicate video below.

Young Turks will release ‘Coexist’ on 10th September 2012
