GFOTY, or Girlfriend of the Year, is a musician who works with PC Music, the brilliant London-based label amplifying pop music to the nth degree. GFOTY isn't as well-known as some of the other artists on the label (yr Hannah Diamonds, yr A.G. Cooks, etc.), but her single Bobby was one of the label's earliest releases, and one of their best.
Clocking in at just under two minutes, new song Don't Wanna/Let's Do It is based around an image of indecision, with GFOTY flitting between a cheery Let's do it! and a trepidatious I don't wanna do it! It's a lot of fun – until you realise how sinister those lyrics actually are. The music plays a similar game of tug-of-war with itself, being both crazy-yet-contagious pop music at the same time as being abrasive, electronic noise.
