Hand on heart, how often do you come across a dance record that is truly amazing? On first listen, Sir Stephen’s ‘By Design’ on Not Not Fun sub-label 100% Silk has blown me away from start to finish. Being a fan of jackin’ house myself, this LA producer has earned double points with these sample-based and mood-lifting cuts that are heavily drawn from classic house tracks in the late 80s to early 90s.

By Design celebrates the revival of classic house – subtly looping the sample in the tune, he makes sure it sounds familiar, while capturing 100% Silk’s signature warm, psychedelic noise sound with those syrupy rhythms and echoing synth beats.
