Ride to Freedom is the B-side for SBTRKT’s new single Hold On, the third to be taken from the London producer’s self-titled debut album. Achingly voiced by Sampha, Hold On is a song of gentle, glockenspiel beats and wistful lamentation, and was one of our songs of 2011. In bold contrast Ride to Freedom seems to be designed to pull on the fun elements of SBTRKT’s sound.

Missing all the gasps and groans of Hold On’s narrative of suffering, this B-side elides vocals completely and rests instead on the spinning, glistening slickness of SBTRKT’s music. With a flight-of-the-bumblebees dexterity that glides its way through the track, Ride to Freedom is carefree and shimmering. Stream it here.
