Saint Pepsi - We Belong Together

Internet-born producer Saint Pepsi takes on Mariah Carey.

Change is good. This is how we feel about internet-born producer Saint Pepsi's new track We Belong Together. It's a completely different sound for the growingly infamous producer who seemingly cut his teeth on disco samples. As per the title, there is a wonderfully placed Mariah Carey sample in there – as well as the classic Lyn Collins "Yeah! Woo!" – all set to a rolling vehicle of glossy bass, some extremely funky guitar chords and a delicious platter of UK garage-flavoured beats, decorated with subtle synth swooshes and ascending pop-out beeps.

It is majorly different to his icebreaker track Unhappy – premiered on The Fader – which is a shouldn't-work-but-does mix of chipmunk-effect samples of an emo song set to trap beats; it now has its own official video. The rise of Saint Pepsi has been variegated but always fun, We Belong Together being yet another example of his talent at pastiche and homage. It's taken from the latest in purveyor of free/good music STYLSS' monthly compilation series, Suicide Pact: Nine
