Rye Rye & Bullion - Keep Up

Baltimore MC teams up with UK producer for some didgeridoo dancehall.

Rye Rye has teamed up with Bullion for a killer new single called Keep Up.

Rye Rye is a Baltimore MC who was discovered in 2007. She has released and featured on a string of brilliant club-rap tracks with artists like Blaqstarr, Diplo, and M.I.A. in the eight years since – an impressive CV, considering she's still only 24 years old.

Bullion, on the other hand is a UK producer of askew, understated pop songs. On paper, it's an odd combination of artists, so how'd they end up coming together?

You'll have to thank Django Django's Dave Maclean for his canny A&R work. Maclean is releasing the single through his label Kick + Clap, and he explains the genesis of the release: "I found an old MP3 player when I was back at my folks’ house, in with a load of my old stuff, and it had this weird track on it… a dancehall rhythm made with a didgeridoo sample. It was labeled 'Bum Spider' and I tried for ages to Google it and couldn't find anything (googling 'bum spider' brought some strange results) so I put a tweet out describing it but… nothing. Then my manager, who knows the producer Bullion, told me it was by him and that he must have sent it to me ages ago! Anyway, I called Bullion up and said I had to release this track because I'd become obsessed with it. Rye Rye came to mind immediately for a top line so I got in touch and she loved the track so got on it."

Last we heard of Kick + Clap, they were releasing an EP from Warlock. And last we heard from Bullion, he was releasing an EP for Greco-Roman.

Kick + Clap release Keep Up on July 31st 2015.
