Premiere: U - The Kids Will Take Care Of Themselves

U is a producer and DJ living in London whose latest EP will come out through Erol Alkan's label, Phantasy Sound.

You might be familiar with U: they made a release on Phantasy last year alongside Babe, Terror under the name BTU, and they've also released a couple of EPs on George Fitzgerald's label, ManMakeMusic. The Kids Will Take Care Of Themselves is the first track to appear from U's forthcoming 'Haven In A Heartfelt World' EP and is a piece of music both wonderful and strange: it's too slow, crackly, and mysterious to feel like it should work on a dancefloor (though it probably would), yet it's too rhythmically-driven and heavy-hitting for pure headphone consumption. U says this about the track:

Sometimes it’s not so much about listening to music, but listening to your own ways of listening.
It’s much more to do with hearing your own ways of hearing.
You hear a sound, you hear an emotion.
You hear a friction of emotions, and then you have to decide what those emotions are.
You have decide what's the tension they're generating, the rub between them.
And then you have to name them.
