Metronomy Interview 2014
29.05.2014, Words by dummymag

Premiere: Metronomy - Reservoir (Jacques Lu Cont remix)

Stuart Price adopts his Jacques Lu Cont guise to deliver a slowed down and beefed up take on Metronomy's new single.

When we first heard 'Love Letters', we reckoned that Reservoir was one of the best songs on it (at the time, we said that it "succeeds in bringing out an emotional resonance from the most unexpected of places"), so it's nice to know that the bigwigs at Metronomy's record label agree: they're issuing it as the album's new single next week.

Besides giving the song a lovely animated music video, they've also enlisted one Jacques Lu Cont for remix duties. For the uninitiated, Jacques Lu Cont is one of many aliases from serial alias adopter Stuart Price, who has produced countless classic club tracks and remixes under the name (as well as under the names Les Rythmes Digitales, Thin White Duke, Paper Faces, Man With Guitar, and Tracques), as well as being one of the most prolific pop producers around right now (having worked with everyone from New Order to Gwen Stefani, not to mention having producing some of Madonna's best latter-day work).

His take on Reservoir takes the fairly lo-fi, slightly whimsical original and flips it on its head, slowing it down and beefing it up for indie disco dancefloors with the addition of synth strings, electric guitars, and stupidly powerful drums. A classic Jacques Lu Cont remix, then.

Stream the song below, and scroll back in time to read our interview with Metronomy's Joe Mount, talking shelf life, devolution, and double albums.

Because Music release Reservoir on June 2nd 2014.
