Premiere: IKEBANA - Spring (aus remix)

The flau label boss stretches the Japanese duo's breathy track into a minimalist dream.

One of our favourite people from our favourite labels – Yasuhiko Fukuzono, who makes music under the moniker aus, and also the label boss of Tokyo-based flau records – has offered up a dreamy remix for equally dreamy Japanese duo IKEBANA. Having released their second album 'When You Arrive There' on flau this July, they have a captivating sound steeped in the same minimalism and stark beauty as their namesake.

Now, leading the charge on 'When You Arrive There Remixes', out on December 4th, label boss Yasuhiko becomes aus to remix IKEBANA's Spring; a delicate track in its original form, aus creates a beautiful journey of sound in his reworking. Described by its creator as "like a megamix," he's taken samples from each song on 'When You Arrive There', recording the piano onto cassette before playing it back and sampling cello, violin, guitars and IKEBANA's vocals as well as field recordings. "I wanted to focus on the emotion behind their space," he told us. "So, I thought 'When You Arrive There' – that time is Spring. We are waiting and longing for Spring."

With its nostalgic crackling background alongside breathy vocal samples, aus has indeed created a song that captures the anticpiation of waiting for better things in this beautiful, gently paced remix. With other artists like Matthewdavid, el fog and Sakaimasayuki & Sigh Society appearing on 'Remixes', with mastering by Miles Whittaker, it's going to be a great escape from December's oncoming cold.

flau will release 'When You Arrive There Remixes on the 4th December 2013.
