Premiere: Dominique Tey’s ‘Let It Out’ came from a loop of negative thoughts

You might know Dominique Tey as one half of Stockholm duo MAASAI, where she’s spent the last half decade crafting chilly Nordic pop.

With that project on ice, Dominique is going it alone – and released her debut single ‘Heartstream’ back in June, a searing number that drew comparisons to Beach House and Cocteau Twins.

‘Let It Out’, which we’re premiering below, is crystalline pop in the same vein, with the delicate layers backed by anthemic drums, and features on her debut EP dropping this Friday.

Of the track, Dominique says: “I wrote this song when I was in a negative loop of thoughts and was trying to figure out why I kept going back to that place. I hated it but it was also a safe place, it was something romantic and bittersweet about it. Sometimes it’s easier not facing your fears and emotions, to just fall into that bad space. So this song became a process in facing those thoughts and feelings and by doing that I could own them and then let them go.”

Listen now.

Her debut EP drops this Friday October 5th via Toothfairy.
