Premiere: Chants – Ice Harvesting

Snow-capped electronica from the new 'Night After' EP on Dutty Artz.

Chants, the electronic alter ego of Wisconsin drummer Jordan Cohen, has a new EP coming out on DJ /rupture’s Dutty Artz label – and we’ve got an exclusive track premiere ahead of its release at the end of May.

Ice Harvesting, one of four tracks from the ‘Night After’ EP, is a richly textured and eerie nocturne, with hints of Mount Kimbie in its organic samples and damp echoes.

Chants told us about the concept behind the track: “With Ice Harvesting, I focused on building a sense of place for the listener. Not a real place, more like a supernatural version of where I was at (Wisconsin in January). Also, for this track in particular I had a rule for myself about not using any sound that felt too synthetic, so no drum machines or saw waves. I love those things too, but here everything had to live together as organically as possible.”

The EP also features an additional three remixes of the title track from New York’s Old Money Massive, Berlin’s Lōtic and Milwaukee’s Adoptahighway.

Chants’ EP, ‘Night After’, is out on 29th May on Dutty Artz.
