Premiere: Akito - 'Unacquainted' EP

London producer/ Sub Skank affiliate Akito shares his debut EP, exclusively available for streaming inside.

Akito Hearnshaw, visual designer and one third of the London based record label, club night and former radio show Sub Skank, is set to debut his digital-only single this spring, and we’re happy to premiere the release here at Dummy.

Having first started out programming grime, later house and UK funky, all of which remain significant influences on his current productions and DJ sets, Akito, who produced under a different guise called Filthy Yello, arrives fully-formed with his latest offering, marked by his exceptionally brutal approach to dancehall. Title track Unacquainted blends stripped back layers of 808 kicks, bursts of skittering snares and reverberated claps, and a dancehall dubplate acapella, all sitting nicely over the underlying field recordings. On the flip, the record features an instrumental version of Unacquainted as well as a weighty, chopped-up remix provided by 92 Points label boss and Dummy mix alumni Louis ‘Visionist’ Carnell, which should appeal to fans who have a bassier palette.

The next Sub Skank party will take place at east London venue Moustache Bar on 1st March, featuring guests like grime legend The Alias, Visionist, and House Of Trax’s Fools and Rushmore. Further information here.

Sub Skank will release Akito – ‘Unacquainted’ EP on 18th March, 2013
