Kiki Hitomi - Thrown Like Jacks/Venus in Furs

The icy intro to Evian Christ’s Thrown Like Jacks is probably one of this year’s most recognisable song openings, at least around our hyperspecific neck of the woods, which makes it all the more odd when Hitomi from King Midas Sound starts singing the first verse of Venus in Furs over the top of it in a breathy whisper. When the drums hit and combination begins to make sense we’re even more confused. That’s part of the point, though, and the impetus behind her ‘@ Represent Internet World’ mixtape – a collection of re-voiced tracks and cover versions. Kiki Hitomi plus Evian Christ plus Tyga plus Grouper plus The Velvet Underground & Nico equals a mad, mad world.
