BRITs awards 2012 – full winners list

Adele sticks her fingers up at "the suits" during acceptance speech, as The Voice and Ed Sheeran walk off big winners.

In a night with few surprises, Adele took two awards, tying Ed Sheeran. Other winners include The Foo Fighters, Lana Del Rey and, of course, Blur.

British Male Solo Artist – Ed Sheeran
British Female Solo Artist – Adele
British Breakthrough Act – Ed Sheeran
British Group – Coldplay
British Single – One Direction ‘What Makes You Beautiful’
Mastercard British Album Of The Year – Adele, ‘21’
International Male Solo Artist – Bruno Mars
International Female Solo Artist – Rihanna
International Breakthrough Act – Lana Del Rey
International Group – Foo Fighters
Contribution to Music Award – Blur
Critics’ Choice – Emeli Sande (winner)

The biggest shock came when Adele flicked what can only be described as “the bird” when her acceptance speech was cut short. As james Cordon told her: “I’m so so sorry, I can’t believe I’m going to do this…”, Adele said: “Oh alright, I’m sorry and I’ll see you this time next year!” before making the half-Agincourt. In “gawd love her” news, she hurriedly apologised at the press conference afterwards: “Can I just say sorry for swearing? I flung the middle finger at the suits, not the fans, I want people to know that. Sorry if I offended anyone, but the people in suits offended me. I wasn’t swearing at the fans, but I didn’t get to complete my thank you speech!”
