Bok Bok introduces Helix

The Night Slugs boss tells you why should look out for one of his star signees.

DJ, producer and Night Slugs boss man Bok Bok knows a good thing when he hears one, so his advice is worth taking note of when it comes to his sterling recommendation of Georgian producer Helix. Crafting twisted productions from deceptively simple skeletons, the American member of the Night Slugs crew has a flair for understated dancefloor shakers. Don’t take our word for it, though; listen to the man who signed him.

Bok Bok: “Despite being based in the state of Georgia, USA, Helix has quickly become a key part of the NS family. His influences – including but not limited to techno, grime, rap and disco – and his righteous attitudes towards club music line up perfectly for Night Slugs. His first outing with us was the effervescent rave-tech banger Drum Track on our White Label series back in 2012, a track that’s proved to have some serious longevity in the clubs probably due to its uncompromising simplicity and directness. Having one of my favourite (and one of Helix’s favourite!) MCs of all time Flirta D vocal the track for the 12” release kind of made my year.

Aside from remixes we’ve commissioned (Look for my Southside Remixes EP) and ones we didn’t (he likes to make numerous self-motivated bootleg refixes of NS tracks) Helix’s next official release for us just dropped recently. It was Volume 4 of our rave-ready Club Constructions series. Aside from L-Vis 1990’s first volume that launched CC, Helix’s contribution perhaps defines the series best so far – hard-hitting, saturated rhythm tools that stand up as monolithic club tracks in their own right.

Although he says he’s happy functioning within the Club Constructions department for now, I personally am really looking forward to Helix’s eventual main series EP for us.”
