Known for her wavy productions, poetic lyrics and warm melodies, YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB is quickly establishing herself as a one of the most promising emerging talents about right now. Based out of London, the French singer-songwriter and producer has had a successful year so far, releasing singles ‘Southside’, ‘Nightride’ and ‘Young’, and now she returns with a brand new offering.
New single ‘Birds in the Cage’ is an empowering acoustic number laced with elements of folk and indie. Utilising her stripped back production and gentle vocal harmonies, the track showcases the emotive side of the singer’s craft and is one of her most intimate releases to date.
Speaking out the single, YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB says: “To be completely honest, the song doesn’t have a set meaning. I took my time to write it and was inspired by different situations, and I think that’s why the song is open to interpretation. My interpretation of it would be that you can’t put people in boxes and expect them to stay in them, let alone be happy in them. I hope that listeners can hear something similar”
The music video shot by Sam Collier follows two teenage boys from a council estate in London, who go on an adventure and step outside of their comfort zone to reveal their true selves.
