Premiere: Mai Kino pays teary-eyed homage to the miracle of birth in 'Swim'

"I wondered what it must be like to come into this world for the very first time..."

With a rich background in dance and multimedia art as well as a rare case of synesthesia which allows her to ‘see’ music in colours and movement, Mai Kino is immersed in her own sonic and visual world.

Opening the door to her inner thoughts with an alluring vocal delivery, the young singer-songwriter continues to join the dots marked out by previous track ‘Talk’ which tackled the disconnection of the world we live in.

Returning to form with ‘Swim’, Mai adopts a more positive outlook producing a fuzzy-edged lullaby highlighting the beauty of birth and the creation of new life.

“I wrote it as a gift to my baby niece who was born a few days after my own birthday,” says Kino. “I wondered what it must be like to come into this world for the very first time… the beauty and terror of the unknown.”

Laying down her soft vocals through blurry eyes, the visuals for the track strips back the young creative to her most naked. With minimal interference or distractions, Mai conveys a whole host of emotions as she spills out her inner-thoughts in a simplistic but touching manner.
