Veteran producer P Jam’s return to work has finally been marked with a solo EP. Following on from the successes of the instrumental release of his D Double E collaboration Anger Management last year and the set up of his own Beatcamp label – the ‘Oxygen EP’ has the feel of a someone trimming a vast history of experiences and experiments into a three-track showcase.
The EP jumps from the funky work-out Bubble Bum to aggressive laser synths of Quantum before closing with the scenic SkyBoy – a track that harks back to the wide vista break in the excellent but still unreleased (?!) Arizona Skyz. Less a definitive statement and more a demonstration and exploration of craft, P Jam’s ‘Oxygen EP’ points to much more in the future and is an interesting, rewarding listen nonetheless.
