Ivy Lab's new EP 'Press Play' contains the silliest beat they've ever written

"Basically its a whole mess, but its a joyous mess and comes straight from the heart."

North London Future Beats figureheads Ivy Lab have dropped four tracks of electronic excellence in the form of their ‘Press Play’ EP. Ivy Lab are responsible for pushing an assortment of halftime and hip hop, dnb and dubstep, and consistent heavyweight, leftfield bass – the tastemakers have infiltrated US audiences and pioneered a sound so thoroughly they even began a legendary imprint 20/20 LDN.

Lead track on their new EP ‘Press Play’ opens slightly unexpectedly with an uncharacteristic playful approach to their unmatchably sharp production. Neptunes-influenced ‘BBQ’ swoops in with a hard-laden synth groove and ‘Dresden Codex’ leaves an acidic bite by building up glitchy tension. Last track ‘Options’ is a dnb banger that provides satisfactory release and strong emotion with its string section and female vocal line.

The duo, who are made up of Sabre and Stray, describe the EP as, “featuring the silliest beat we’ve ever written + one of the most ominous beats we’ve written + a fresh Liquid DnB joint….. Basically its a whole mess, but its a joyous mess and comes straight from the heart.” Catch Ivy Lab go b2b with Sumgii this weekend at the 20/20 takeover of Heavyweight at London’s Fire & Lightbox nightclub, or on tour, dates below.
