Gucci Mane and Future don’t half step when it comes to rapping about stacking and spending delirious amounts of money but there’s also a melancholy in both that gives their incessant bragging a cold, lonely undertone.
Fuck the World is all about this shared dynamic – a celebration of wealth, a brush off to rivals and a frustrated lament all in one. Future’s cyborg croon is perfect for the hook and his featuring verse is on the verge of cracking – sweeping wildly from close familial references to cinematic flourishes like “I’m in Giuseppes walking in the rain”. Gucci’s style isn’t as wrought as Future’s but his flow is as open as it is mesmerising. His momentum pushes forward as though he’s thinking in a tunnel but will briefly stop short on a reference to his slain friend and colleague Slim Dunkin or a sudden awareness of the vulnerability, even improbability, of his position.
Fuck The World is taken from Gucci Mane’s ‘Trap God’ mixtape, coming out on October 17th.
