Falling Again: Pional

There’s something wintry about Spanish producer Pional’s (Miguel Barros) compositions. And that’s not just the time of year talking. His latest single ‘We’ve Been Waiting For You’, out now through John Talabot’s Hivern Discs label, pummels along on moody house piano and low-slung rhythms, peppered with icy strings and vocal drama.

He’s been making music since he was a teenager, with the turning point coming at the age of 17 when he discovered Ableton. Hivern Discs stumbled across his myspace page and put out Barros’ first release ‘Clipée’ under his previous alias Alt Fenster. Since January of this year he’s been working as Pional, releasing ‘A Moot Point’ in March, and the aforementioned single at the end of last month. Several remixes and a record through Phonica are apparently pending.

In Midnight Sleep, which you can download here, is a light-hearted little number, twinkling its way forward on snow-flake delicate percussion and bubbles of feathery sound. Pretty as winter sun.
