What we'd be doing if we were in Edinburgh

Thousands of people are in the Scottish capital right now watching free improvised comedy shows and collecting a lifetime supply of leaflets.

For those wanting to escape the Fringe chaos and check out some good music, though, there isn’t far to go. The Edge Festival is bursting with big names performing around Edinburgh this month – our picks would include James Blake at Liquid Rooms on the 30th, Best Coast at the Bongo Club on the same night, Washed Out at Sneaky Pete’s on the 14th and Warpaint at The Queens Hall on the 23rd. Tickets tend be under £10, although you’ll have to pay twice that if you want to see Wiz Khalifa at Liquid Rooms on the 22nd.

LuckyMe are also running a series of parties which should tempt you, including one this Friday, the 12th, with live performances from Rustie, Machinedrum and Nick Hook, among others.

This will be followed up by an exclusive screening of The Return (2003) by Andrei Zvyagintsev on Saturday 13th, accompanied by a live score from Mike Slott, with live performances from Dam Mantle and Asthmatic Astronaut on the same night.

Tickets are not necessary for LuckyMe events; tickets for Edge Festival events can be bought here .
