Palmistry on how his father’s death inspired ‘Afterlife’ and working with SOPHIE on Rihanna material
- SOUL SONIC FORCE PLANET ROCK
This song changed my life. When I heard this song for the first time I knew I had to do one just like it. I knew it was from Kraftwerk’s Numbers song and I had wanted to do a rap over that track as well, but they remade the beat and it was louder than Kraftwerk. That is when my creative juices started to flow!
- KRAFTWERK NUMBERS
When I first heard this song I was really into finding something different and here it was. It was funky yet electric and that is what intrigued me. Very creative as all of Kraftwerk’s work.
- TWILIGHT 22 ELECTRIC KINGDOM
This record also inspired me to go into the studio and make a record. With all of its Arabic sounds and Egyptian feel, I was blown away and went into the studio as soon as I could to record Egypt Egypt. This record also was very clean sounding and that’s what made me want to record my stuff as clean as possible. The perfect record!
- THE FUTURE NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST
This song with its 808 beat was a jam to me, I played this record at all my dances in the 80s and the crowd loved it. I think the programming on the drum machine was very nice, it helped me learn how and also want to program many beats!
- JAMIE JUPITOR COMPUTER POWER
I was in the studio when Jamie was recording this and that loud FX on the drums gave me goose bumps! This is a classic for all times.
- CYBOTRON CLEAR
This record is a DJ’s dream. Every time I put this record on, the 10,000 party people at my show would freak out!!! The beat is ridiculous! Vocals are classic!!!
- HASHIM AL NAAFIYSH
This record had one of the best vocoders ever in the beginning – “it’s time” – I used to mix it over and over and over again. And the beat was greatly EQ’d which inspired me to EQ my beats. Reminding you this was back in the early 80s and all EQ and FX was done by hand, no computers to make this easy! It was hard work and very time consuming.
- CYBOTRON R9
Cybotron did it again.. This beat and all of its sounds were so inspirational to me. I love the breakdown when the beat just goes by itself!
- GRAND MASTER FLASH AND THE FURIOUS 5 SCORPIO
Vocoder, vocoder, vocoder – I love the vocoder on this track. Best ever!!!
- NEWCLEUS COMPUTER AGE (PUSH THE BUTTON)
When I heard Cozmo D and Newcleus’ Computer Age (Push the Button) I thought that this was the biggest record ever made. The way Chilly B sang on this record was classic, and the beats from that 808 was perfection! I love this record so much. It just may be the best ever!
- KRAFTWERK TOUR DE FRANCE
When I heard the breathing on this record I knew that I had to do something similar because breathing on a record was my thang. I had done it on my first record Yes, Yes, Yes and got even more inspired when I heard this. I booked the studio and recorded Egypt Egypt the next day!
