  1. James Franco’s paintings were displayed publicly for the first time at the Glü Gallery in Los Angeles in 2006. He launched his first European art exhibition in 2011 at Peres Projects in Berlin. James Franco’s first solo art show was at the Clocktower Gallery in New York City. The exhibit, entitled ‘The Dangerous Book Four Boys’ incorporated sculpture, photography, drawing, film and video all of which centered on ideas of boyhood and the sexual awakening of the early teenage years.

For a piece of performance art ‘Soap’, James Franco live-taped himself playing a performance artist called “Franco” on soap opera General Hospital who remade James Franco’s artwork. ‘Soap’ climaxed with James Franco pretending to be a stuntman (also called “Franco”) and jumping off a balcony, re-creating a stunt from the soap in the gallery.
  3. James Franco has published a collection of short stories called Palo Alto: Stories in 2010 that is inspired by some of his own teenage memories. The book is named after the California city where Franco grew up and is dedicated to many of the writers he worked with at Brooklyn College.
