Watch Vessel perform at Tate Britain with the Immix Ensemble

Seb Gainsborough – sometimes known as "the techno Morrissey", but mostly known as Vessel – recently took his album 'Punish, Honey' to the live stage with Liverpool's Immix Ensemble.

'Punish, Honey' was produced using homemade instruments – woodwind instruments made out of reconstituted bike parts, for example – and the Immix Ensemble have helped Vessel bring these DIY sounds to life using more conventional instrumentation. Well, conventional-ish – they still used an electronically manipulated live saxophone and an unpredictable modular synthesizer alongside a violin, so it's hardly yr typical rock'n'roll setup.

Vessel and the Immix Ensemble performed live at the Tate Britain gallery in London last year, which was captured in a new short film for Noisey and Philips's You Need To Hear This series. In the video, Gainsborough talks through the audio-visual collaboration and what it's like to play the hallowed hall of the Tate.
