Space Oddity, live from space
Canadian astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield has made his time in the International Space Station a pleasant one: keeping up social media accounts full of stories, pictures and videos from his unique position in low Earth orbit. For the end of his five month stay he’s made his most poignant transmission yet: covering David Bowie’s 1969 single Space Oddity in what is believed to be the first music video shot in space. “Lock your Soyuz hatch and put your helmet on,” he sings with considerable melancholy, referencing the spacecraft that will fly him back to Earth today. He’ll be glad to know he’s very welcome back on terra firma, with Bowie himself already Tweeting a greeting:
