Premiere: Napolian - DARPA

The eagle-eyed among you will be familiar with this young Los Angeles name already: scour the credits for A$AP Ferg's 'Trap Lord' and you'll find several mixing and production credits for Ian "Napolian" Evans, and a beefed up, Bok Bok-ed take on his track Guns & Synths wound up as the backing to Kelela's mission statement on 'CUT 4 ME'. After many a repeated play it's still one of mixtape's most cutthroat, bass face-ready turns: and that's high praise in the company of Jam City, Kingdom, and Girl Unit.

But we're pleased to share the news that Napolian will follow 2012's 'Rejoice' EP by stepping up for a debut on Software at the end of May. Described as a beat tape by the label (they've lovingly nicknamed it 'Encursducing'), 'Incursio' carries the kind of dazzle and penchant for the post-human we've come to anticipate from Dan Lopatin's imprint. The above video for DARPA – put together by Thailand-based producer/editor Champ Ensminger – is the first taste of the album, and it's a heady one at that. A rattling din of static circulates early on, before DARPA takes to the battlefield to release an artillery of heavy-duty bass 'n' snare.
