Premiere: Jesse Hackett - Josie

Jesse Hackett recently described the music he makes with with Owiny Sigoma Band as "not tight and snappy, not loose and flappy, somewhere in between crispy and unclean (also mean)." That summary can also be aptly slapped onto this off-kilter cover of Steely Dan's 1977 track Josie, recorded for the excellent new 'Pun for Cover' EP from DEEK Recordings. Alongside a video full of paranoid cartoonish close-ups, the track is a noodling lo-fi rendition full of synth wizardry and a cool, charged vocal from ESKA

If you've been keeping your eyes peeled then you might have noticed we've been premiering a track a day from the brilliantly named 'Pun for Cover' compilation all week – check here for Bullion's teary-eyed take on Hall & Oates and here for pop futurist Gwilym Gold's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

DEEK Recordings will release 'Pun For Cover' on November 29th via Bandcamp, and will host a Pun For Cover party at Dalston's Servant Jazz Quarters on November 30th, featuring live sets from Laura Groves, Nautic, Jesse Hackett, Gwilym Gold, Dario Rossetti Bonell, and Fabiana Palladino, and DJ sets from Bullion, Lukid, and Otis Pipe Down – more information here.
