Metro Zu - Dynasty Warriorz

Metro Zu are a Miami rap group with strong artistic leanings. They released their latest mixtape ‘Zuology’ over the weekend, a murky trip through Miami Bass, ambient R&B and Southern hip-hop that’s full of fun and off-kilter parody. Sometimes it sounds like recording it was an act of oneupmanship – a loose re-imagining of 2 Live Crew’s explicit rap or a technicolour extension of the Who Would You Fuck skit from Ghostface Killah’s ‘Supreme Clientele’.

Their 2.0 take on the age-old theme of macking is encapsulated in Dynasty Warriorz, a track with drawling verses and a deadpan hook dulled by it’s repetitiveness. The kaleidescope-like video from group member and visual artist Lofty 305, made up of heavily-edited clips from game of the same name, captures the strange, disorientating appeal of it all.
