When you strip a song back down to its very essence and it still sounds amazing is when you know it was written by someone with a talent well worthy of praise. Better still, when said composer performing it has a voice that does that song full justice in a live setting with an expressiveness that makes an uncomfortably close up camera angle have real feeling, then you’re either on to a good thing – or you’re just Julia Holter.
