Jammer ft. Lord of the Mics Allstars - Lord of the Mics

The buzz around ‘Lord of the Mics 3’ has been growing with a steady stream of Youtube clips and endless Twitter speculation and a new video featuring a host of the MCs taking part has been released. With organiser and hype-man Jammer acting as compère, the video is a standard posse cut format interspersed with clips from the upcoming DVD.

The first two installements of the Lord of the Mics series were released in 2004 and 2006 respectively and featured some of grime’s biggest and best-known names many of whom, like Scorcher, Skepta and Tinchy Stryder, have built on the momentum gathered in the early clashes. The DVD series has also shaped the landscape of the genre and provided plenty of defining moments, most notably Wiley and Kano’s fiercely-contested battle in ‘Lord of the Mics 1’.

Besides Jammer and fellow veterans Diesle and Wariko this clip is largely dominated by the new wave of grime artists. This is no bad thing, however, and the burgeoning talent shines through – particularly the Midlands-based Stay Fresh MCs Sox and J1 and the brilliant Merky Ace. With break-neak flows over Faze Miyake’s stomping ‘Take Off’, one of the defining grime instrumentals of the year, the video suggests big things to come from ‘Lord of the Mics 3’ and the scene as a whole.

The Lord of the Mics 3 CD/DVD will be released on the 12th of December by 360 Records and is available for pre-order now.
