Hype Williams – stalker 5, nj,2012

On the latest video uploaded to Hype Williams’ Youtube, there’s a shot of an arcade, and a ferris wheel, which reminds me of eating ice cream in Scarborough and hiding from the rain, which in turn reminds me of that small but rich seam in British culture of giggling sadly at weird towns, from That Peter Kay Thing to Jeremy Deller. This seems as crucial to this duo as the plaintive dub of the track and the hymns of Britain’s diasporas, internal and other.

As ever, there is no information attached to this fifth instalment of the Stalker series, though I would heartily recommend chasing up ‘Black is Beautiful’ [Hyperdub], Dean Blunt and Inga Coupland’s first album not under the Hype Williams name, if you haven’t already.
