Greeen Linez, Patrice & Friends - Hibiscus Pacific

Grime encyclopedia Slackk is releasing a new EP under his Patrice & Friends alias, comprising of reworks of tracks from boogie freaks Greeen Linez’ album, a combination which makes so much sense it’s amazing it took this long to happen. In the past, Patrice & Friends could be reduced to a simple (but undeniably effective) formula of “soft 80s R&B meets footwork”. This tag seems a little reductive now, though – Hibiscus Pacific is still as sleazy and pornographic as it comes, but whilst the breakneck rhythms and FM synths remain present, it feels less like the sum of two genres and more a multi-faceted, hybrid form of with no distinguishable starting point. And no, we have no idea what the video is about, either – FACT point out that the visuals are taken from Lior Ben Horin’s Head On, although it seems to have been turned up to 11 – but it’s very watchable, and fittingly phallic.
