CYMBALS - The Natural World

London group CYMBALS – who’ve always put genuine thought behind their lively post-punk sound – have returned with arguably their most pure pop cut to date. The Natural World follows up on last year’s absorbing nine-minute epic Like An Animal, which shifted bountifully between four-four club beats and tricksy interplay between guitar and voice. For The Natural World, the group ease up on the wide-reaching influences, instead slotting into a synth-soaked, exhaustive sound (a little reminiscent of US indie poppers Passion Pit). The video features dancer and choreographer Jaime Flor, and totally nails down The Natural World’s pent up energy. Flor, suited up and with accompanying briefcase, bounds about throughout in some bland urban settings, before eventually donning a fetching red cape. He’s one heck of a mover, and the video brings out the track’s conversation between uptightness and wild abandon nicely.

Tough Love released The Natural World on the 24th January 2013.
