Blood Orange is literally late for his girlfriend

Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, previously Lightspeed Champion / Test Icicles, do keep up) has a commitment to making pop music that works as romantic commentaries on pop music. Blood Orange is a project about the tender, direct electronic funk of the 80s and 90s, as well as being a tender, direct electronic funk of the 80s and 90s. Personally, while I found ‘Coastal Grooves’ [2011, Domino] incredibly affecting, striking in its lack of cynicism, I found some of the visual output a little heavy handed in its references.

But the video for Forget It is really lovely. Shot on VHS camcorder by frequent collaborator Alan Del Rio Ortiz, it shows Dev waking up late, getting his stuff together, and arriving late at his girlfriend’s house. Finally, it’s something that visualises exactly what appeals most about Blood Orange – that underneath the meta-pop commentary, it’s a light, simple and charming.

Oh, in other Blood Orange news, he covered Bobby Darin’s Dream Lover for a sexy video of one-time Dummy-contributor Karley Sciortino for fab film site Pruple.fr
