Autre Ne Veut - Ego Free Sex Free

While many music video directors have resorted to shock tactics and cheap reveals to keep viewers engaged this year – see the recent output of Robin Thicke and The Weeknd if you need any examples – this new one from Brooklyn-based avant-pop artist Autre Ne Veut (directed by Allie Avital Tsypin) is a wonderful example of finding genuinely new and exciting ways to play with the form. Made up of one continuous shot of a ballroom full of dancers working their way through tightly choreographed, minimal moves, the video is not only an exercise in eye strain but also a genuinely fascinating watch, as it allows you to look wherever you like within the frame, essentially constructing your own video shot-by-shot and causing you to realise just how much music videos usually force your eye. In its distance and rigidity, it's also a cool parallel to the sensual abandon of the track.
