Sun Araw & M. Geddes Gengras meet The Congos for FRKWYS Vol. 9

LA experimental artists and reggae legends met in Kingston, Jamaica for latest in excellent collab record series.

For RVNG Intl’s latest legends-and-young-blood FRKWYS collaboration series they took Sun Araw’s Cameron Stallone and M. Geddes Gengras to Kingston, Jamaica at the end of 2010 to live and work with 70s reggae vocal group The Congos. The resulting experience has been captured on a record titled ‘FRKWYS Vol. 9 – Sun Araw & M. Geddes Gengras meet The Congos – ICON GIVE THANK’ and a film called Icon Eye, both of which are due to be released on 9th April 2012.

RVNG Intl. explain that: GIVE THANK is not a dub reggae album, though it shares some of the genre’s production characteristics. Rather, it’s an album of Stallones and Gengras’s melodically experimental meditations ornamented with The Congos’ soulful vocal leads and four-part harmonies. The four kings of the The Congos share the vocal throne over the course of GIVE THANK. Johnson’s tenor, Myton’s falsetto, Burnett’s baritone, and Fyffe’s cosmic vocal glue command singularity and create an essence combined.”

Have a listen to the simply stunning Happy Song below, along with the teaser for the Icon Eye film and artwork.
