A cherry on the cake moment for the self-proclaimed wonky funk artist.
Congratulations to NAO who made her way to the top three of BBC's Sound of 2016 shortlist this morning.
Back in December 2015, London-based NAO was announced as a nominee on BBC's 'Sound of 2016' longlist alongside Jack Garratt, J Hus, and her collaborator Mura Masa. Following Mura Masa and WSTRN's joint #5 place landing on Monday, and Stockport-based group Blossoms at #4 yesterday, the BBC has announced that the self proclaimed 'wonky funk' artist has arrived at #3 on the final shortlist.
Today's news is the cherry on the cake of an impressive year for NAO, which included the release of her 'February 15' and 'So Good' EPs on our very own Dummy Records, an appearance on Disclosure's track Superego taken from hit album 'Caracal', plus the completion of her first full U.K. and European tour. NAO's inclusion in Spotify's 'Spotlight on 2016', Google Play Music’s Ones to Watch for 2016 and Apple Music’s New Artists for 2016 further seal her as an artist to bookmark for the following months.
NAO set the foundations for 2016 with last year's single Bad Blood, which hit the top-spot of Hype Machine yesterday, as well as a brief European tour on the horizon with her debut album rumoured for release deeper into the year. To keep you going in the mean time, footage of NAO's performance of Inhale Exhale has been made available from the show via BBC Music, which you can watch above.
NAO will play the following dates in 2016:
