SpaceGhostPurrp - Lustful 97

While you were sleeping Miami rapper/producer SpaceGhostPurrp, who recently signed to 4AD, dropped a new purple bombshell on the internet. “Pheel Tha Phonk” he tweeted, and “Y’all go rap about smoking WEED and TRAPPING i’ma make ponk for my sexual goddesses and raiders” before linking to Lustful 97, a six and a half minute, treacle-slow siren call to getting down, complete with Lil Louis French Kiss evoking moans. Although, it has to be said, Lustful 97’s sound a lot realer. It’s raw, it’s rough and it’s totally addictive. Aside from the obvious, it draws to mind a couple of things – Slum Village’s Climax for its fixed gaze up-front-ness and, interestingly, thanks to that haunting rattle in the foreground of the production, Laurel Halo’s Speed Of Rain. That said, SpaceGhostPurrp is on his own thing and this is yet more evidence of his new-hip-hop-icon status. Stream Lustful 97 below or download it here.
