RxGibbs makes old-style shoegaze like a new-style bedroom producer.
RxGibbs seems like a shoegaze musician born into the wrong era. This isn’t to say that he makes music that’s little more than a throwback to mid-90s indie, but that he makes dream pop using the tools of a modern musician. So whilst during this era the guitar bands would drown their music in huge washes of FX in a studio, in 2013 it’s a producer doing the same on a computer in a bedroom. Macro, taken from his forthcoming album for modern pop label Cascine, is an electronic dream pop song that recalls the atmosphere of Slowdive, the ambient electronica of Seefeel and the lush textures of, well, Lush.
