DJ Q - 'Brandy & Coke / JD & Coke'

BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Q, who is in charge of remixing the biggest grime instrumental track of 2009, S-X’s Woooo Riddim, is due to release a single on London label Local Action this February. The A-side of the record is a 2-step edit of Best Friend that combines UK funky/ garage with Brandy’s vocals. Blawan’s track Getting Me Down also heavily samples this US vocalist. The blend of bassline and full (instead of cut-up and edited) R&B vocals on Brandy & Coke is incredibly fresh, while B-side JD & Coke is equally astonishing. A few days ago, label boss Tom Lea also tweeted, “B&C b-side’s a total goer.” (Yes, it is!) The release will drop next month in limited heavyweight red vinyl.
