Doomy crate-digging duo craft a mix of twisted voodoo techno. Merry christmas everyone!
Demdike Stare are a pretty singular proposition. Their productions are scholarly exercises in the obscure, outer-reaches of music, towering works of droning, dark, sample-rich techno. Considering their crate-digging aesthetic then, a mix from the pair was always going to be pretty interesting. This mix, titled their ‘Irrational Advice’ mix and made for their label Modern Love, is just that. Filled with ghostly oriental flourishes, eerie atmospheres, and mangled electronics, it’s a bracing, darkly palpitating listen.
Also, if you’re into this sort of thing, you should probably note that they’ve got a 4-way vinyl gatefold record titled ‘Elemental’ coming out, which is apparently “creates a jet-black aesthetic only intermittently illuminated by shards of light”. Details here.
