Vanilla Hammer - Burning Sand

Burning Sand is an aptly titled piece of work; its opening atmosphere immediately conjures imagery of trekking through some sort of vast, searing desert landscape, and it establishes new artist Vanilla Hammer as someone with a discernible ability to convey a truly cinematic feel through his music.

Whilst billed as ‘dreamlike isolationist techno’, there’s a variety of electronic elements at work here. Shimmering metallic sounds cascade over the song’s scorching backdrop, which is so embellished with ambience that it could be have been produced by any number of soundtrack composers, and its warped, muffled percussion, which seems to violently lash out here and there, is reminiscent of Aphex Twin, circa 95/96.

Kaleidoscope will release ‘Retreat’ as part of its ‘LIMITED DUB SERIES’ at midnight on the 5th November, 2012.
