A$AP Rocky - Goldie

It seems there’s little that A$AP Rocky could do to stop the hype machine in play for his crew right now. After the visual treat that was ‘Wassup’ – all those Versace, Belly and Scarface references tied together with that hazy Clams Casino beat – Rocky injects ‘Goldie’ with some familiar motifs. Sure, there’s the cars, girls, weed and furs, but it doesn’t feel tired. He’s ticking off the classic rap visual boxes with a youthful sense of humour, running around Paris with gold teeth like it’s nothing. Oh, and the track itself pretty dope too. The beat lets Rocky do the talking, and he does it well. “N***as talk shit til they get lockjaw/Chrome to ya dome til they get Glock jaw”? That reference to Jay-Z’s boycott of Cristal? A few videos in, and I think what you see, and hear, really is what you get with Rocky and the crew.
