Call Super is a techno producer living in Berlin who, once upon a time, was known as J.R. Seaton. He's very good, and he has a debut album coming out called 'Suzi Ecto' for Houndstooth (who have been on a roll recently) which is also very good.
Actually, 'techno producer' is maybe a slightly reductive phrase to use, as it comes with all sorts of connotations and expectations that maybe don't apply to Call Super. He doesn't exclusively make brütal, punishing club tracks: in fact, a lot of 'Suzi Ecto' has a very naturalistic quality to it, like machines attempting to recreate the sounds of the the environment. Sometimes the album does let rip, but it's these abstract pieces – like this new song Sulu Sekou, which sounds a bit like a new age relaxation tape made by Phillip Glass or something – that it's at its most rewarding.
Houndstooth release 'Suzi Ecto' on September 1st 2014 (pre-order).
