Keiji Haino is a byword for forward thinking avant-garde experimentation. He’s a musician for whom the concept of boundaries means fuck all. He's an enigma, there's not even a Facebook page or offical website for me to link to.
It was with this in mind that we were eagerly anticipating Keiji's finale of the Ace Hotel x Moog Sound Lab residency to be absolutely spectular – and of course – he delivered. Kindly asking us to keep a respectful distance from the stage, we tried to capture his tantalising performance, which witnessed industrial hums and hisses marry up with abrasive synthesised squeals and the haunting call of what sounded like a Japanese flute (correct me if I'm wrong). Scuttling around the stage in his oversized silver suit as the audience got lost in the sway of the Dream Machine, it was truly a unique Saturday night experience.
The Ace Hotel x Moog Sound Lab took place throughout the month of August. Keep your eyes peeled for a full length documentary on the series coming soon on DUMMY.
