Last week, Chris Lee (Li Yuchun 李宇春) announced details of their new double A-side single Real Love / Only You, previewing the second half of the release ahead of a release on PC Music today (December 14th).
A video of the two singles has been shared this afternoon and features the Chinese pop-star and actress performing the singles in a clip directed by Kinga Burza (whose previous clients include Lana Del Rey and Katy Perry) alongside PC Music creative director Finn Mactaggart. The video was premiered at the Beijing art fair Tomorrow's Party on Friday, December 11th. In a statement, Finn Mactaggart had this to say about the video:
“My idea was to create a video in which the feeling that both tracks reflected each other was clear. Within the video, Chris’ performance constantly addresses itself. My hope was that the structure of the video and its perspective felt as unique as the songs. It is the result of a really satisfying collaboration. Chris knows exactly how to act in front of the camera and we were so fortunate to have Kinga Burza direct this. She has a serious talent for creating work that is unashamedly beautiful.”
The previously unheard Real Love features Lee singing in English with all the hyperactive and colourful hallmarks of PC Music's aesthetic catered in both sound and vision. Lee performs the track in a set of reflective rooms, before using her native tongue to perform Only You in a neon-filled setting that befits the darkness and intensity of Gaspar Noé's Enter The Void. Both singles were produced by PC Music's A.G. Cook and represent the first release from the label by an artist outside their inner camp. According to a press release, remixes of the songs by Clark and et aliae are soon to follow.
