We first featured Leeds producer Happa back in the summer after Mary Anne Hobbs was so taken in by his talents that she offered the 15 year old a mix slot on her Xfm show. Since then, new imprint Church put out his much anticipated ‘Beat Of The Drum/Bring It Back’ EP and he’s shared some heavy duty remixes, including this 7-minute deconstruction job on Vondelpark’s swooning new single Dracula. Initially, it feels like Happa has bludgeoned the source material beyond all recognition, but then a murky retelling of_Dracula’s_ vocal is revealed beneath those cavernous and unrelenting techno pounds. The video churns up grainy footage of some hip hop booty shakers, closely tracking the rhythmic peaks and troughs and – as is usually the case with such visual re-edits – flips its flirtatiousness into something just downright freaky.
Happa will headline the ‘Dollop’ night at Birthdays in Dalston, London tonight, and R&S Records will release Vondelpark’s ‘Seabed’ in 2013
